    No, the closest the Commodores came was in 1993, when they made their only trip to the Final Four. But Vandy Head Coach Jim Foster has watched a former player and two former assistant coaches take home the trophy over the last three years:

  • 2001 champion Notre Dame's head coach, Muffet McGraw, was an assistant to Foster when he was Head Coach at St. Joseph's University.
  • 2000 champion Connecticut's head coach, Geno Auriemma, was also an assistant of Foster's at St. Joe's.
  • 1999 champion Purdue's head coach Carolyn Peck played for Foster at Vanderbilt from 1986-1990. (Peck is now Head Coach of the WNBA Orlando Miracle.)

    • Vanderbilt is currently ranked No. 5 in the Gballmag.com poll with a 16-3 record. Many analysts say this year's Vanderbilt team has a great chance to make it to the Final Four, if not win a national title.
