  • Introducing:
    Charde Houston

This West Coast wonder has drawn attention across the country

San Diego High School's Charde Houston knows how to put the ball in the hoop.

After averaging 34 points a game as a sophomore, including a section record 71-point one game outburst, Houston kicked it up a notch for her junior season. The 6-2 dynamo averaged 35.6 points per game, including two games of scoring more than 50 points.

She also became the first player in her section's history to have multiple 1,000-point scoring seasons. Houston now has totaled 2,676 points during her high school career--only 770 points behind the state record set by Cheryl Miller between 1979 and 1982.

San Diego H.S. was upset in the CIF Division I semifinals by Poway, despite 27 points by Houston. But the early ouster should only make her more determined to take her team deeper in the playoffs next season.

Among her many honors, Houston was named to the Parade magazine All-America second team and selected for the Union-Tribune All-San Diego Section team for the third straight season.

This summer, Houston joined 46 other top high school players for the second annual USA Basketball Women's Youth Development Festival June 12-15 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. And she participated at the Adidas Top Ten camp earlier this summer

Houston still hasn't decided on a college, but at the Adidas Top Ten camp she mentioned her interest in Texas, Tennessee, Rutgers, Kentucky and Connecticut. Whichever school she chooses will be gettting one of the most dynamic high school players of the past few years.
