Introducing:
Liz Dancause
This versatile swing player helped Nashua High School capture its third consecutive state title this spring.
Up in the northeastern corner of the United States, Nashua (N.H.) High School has become a basketball power, winning 13 Class L state titles since 1982. They've really been on a roll the past three years, winning 63 straight games versus New Hampshire schools and three consecutive state championships.
One major factor in the latest string has been the play of Liz Dancause. A 6-0 swing player, Dancause averaged 17.2 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists, while scoring 1,043 points during her high school career.
This March, the Purple Panthers captured their third straight state championship, but it wasn't easy. They barely survived the semi-final round, topping Concord 44-41, before going on to defeat Dover 70-46 in the title game.
"Personally, I felt like we didn't even win that (Concord) game," Dancause told the Manchester Union-Leader after the title game. "We came out here today and really wanted to leave our hearts on the court. We talked before the game about leaving everything out there. We felt we should have nothing left after the game, physically or emotionally."
With that kind of attitude, it's no surprise that others have recognized Dancause's abilities on the court. She was named Miss New Hampshire Basketball, Class L's Player of the Year, earned her second straight spot on the Class L All State First Team, and was named to the Parade Magazine All-America High School Basketball Team by a panel of coaches, scouts and recruiters. And last month, Dancause played in a WBCA High School All American Game in Hartford, Conn., as one of only 20 players from around the country invited to the contest.
Dancause has signed a Letter of Intent to attend George Washington University this fall.
