Introducing:
Chloe Kerr
This Chicago-area standout excels both on the court and in the classroom.
Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School's Chloe Kerr hails from an athletic family. Her brother Lloyd played football at Tennessee, brother Schin played basketball at Loyola University in Chicago, and her father Lloyd Sr. and Uncle Floyd Kerr (now athletic director at Southern University) played basketball at Colorado State.
But Kerr is not just about sports. A four-year honor student, student government treasurer, peer leader, and member of an anti-drug and alcohol forum, Kerr is a two-time selection to the US Scholar Athlete Games at the University of Rhode Island. She's also done some community service, such as co-chairing (with her dad) a dinner to feed the homeless at the Downers Grove (Ill.) YMCA in 1999.
Kerr was nominated for Gball's High School Heroes page by Jerald Davis, her club coach for Chicago Hoops Express. "The reason I nominated Chloe is because she is what a student-athlete should be about," Davis says. ³She is an all-state basketball player and has a GPA of 3.6.
"She is a wonderful young lady from a quality family," Davis continues. "On the court, Chloe is one of those players who will pass first and she is truly a team player who does the dirty work in the paint that most players will not do. She has skill and athleticism, but it is her ability to sacrifice herself for the sake of the team that really stands out. She does whatever it takes to make her teammates the best they can be."
Last season, the 6-3 Kerr led Bolingbrook to a 25-3 record and to the sectional finals. The team was ranked in the Chicago-area Top 10 for most of last season and in the Top 20 for the entire state. A three-time SICA North All-Conference selection, Kerr was named MVP at the Plainfield High School Christmas Tournament last season.
Kerr will appear on the cover of the Illinois High School Media Guide as a member of the Tremendous 26 (13 boys and 13 girls) for the 2002-2003 season. She's currently ranked 33rd in the senior class by the All Star Girls Report.
On Nov. 10, Kerr announced her college choice: the University of Southern California. (She also considered Purdue, Illinois, and Wisconsin.) Coach Davis says that to succeed at the next level, Kerr needs to improve her foot speed and her agility. But he has no doubt she'll do whatever it takes. "She's a delight to coach, and a great leader," he says.
