  • Introducing:
    Moneka Knight

The odds are that this stellar Las Vegas guard will succeed at TCU

Las Vegas is a city of gamblers, but Moneka Knight is a sure bet when she has a basketball in her hands. As a junior, the 5-8 guard at Bishop Gorman High School led her team to the finals of the Class 4A title game (the team fell to Centennial in the title tilt), and she's looking to take them all the way this season.

Last year, Knight averaged 12 points, eight assists, five steals and four rebounds while leading Bishop Gorman to 27-6 record. She was named to the all-state team, attended the adidas All-American Camp, and was one of 48 players invited to the USA Women's Youth Development Festival in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Last month, Knight signed a Letter of Intent to attend Texas Christian University, where she'll play for Head Coach Jeff Mittie. "Moneka is very athletic and quick in the open court," Mittie said. "She possesses the ability to shoot on the perimeter, as well as getting to the basket."

Knight chose TCU over Purdue, Vanderbilt, California and Kansas State and noted her participation in the Youth Development Festival gave her an inkling what to expect at the college level.

"Playing against those good girls, it helps you see what the college game is going to be like," Knight told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "It helped me figure out ways to shoot over big girls, and ways to get my shot."

Knight's high school coach, Sheryl Krmpotic, thinks that Knight made a good choice in TCU. "It's an up-and-coming program, and she's an up-and-coming athlete," Krmpotich told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "I think her best basketball's way ahead of her. I think she's going to flourish at TCU because they're real quick and athletic."
