  • Introducing:
    Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton

A strong all-around game has earned this Illinois standout a scholarship to Purdue University this fall.

At 6-2, Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton would be expected to have a strong inside game. But in the last game of her stellar four-year career at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, Ill., she achieved a milestone that confirmed her strong all-around hoops game: she notched her 500th assist. With that, she became the only Illinois high school girl to hit at least 500 points, rebounds, blocks, steals, and assists for her career.

As a senior, Wisdom-Hylton led Neuqua Valley to a 22-8 and the sectional finals, where the team fell to Naperville Central and dunking phenom Candace Parker. She finished the season with average of 15 points, 10.5 rebounds and 5.2 blocks.

Last August, Wisdom-Hylton made an early commitment to attend Purdue. "I wanted to sign early and make a decision before November," she told the West Lafayette Journal and Courier. "I didn't want it to be a distraction during my senior year and I didn't want to drag coaches along."

She had also considered Marquette, Illinois, Northwestern as well as Duke and Connecticut, but decided on Purdue after her third unofficial visit to campus. "It had everything I wanted: a good school and a great basketball program," Wisdom-Hylton told the West Lafayette Journal and Courier . "I've gotten to know most of the players and they're great. The coaches are great too."

The feeling is mutual. "Lindsay brings size and athleticism both inside and out," said Purdue Head Coach Kristy Curry last November, after Wisdom-Hylton signed her letter of intent in November. "She has the ability to score in a lot of ways and is a great passer. I think she has that uncanny ability that very few have to really make those around her better. Her high school program is outstanding, and she brings a confidence that will be a huge asset for our program."

A few weeks ago, Wisdom-Hylton was named to the Chicago Tribune's 2003-04 All-State Girls Basketball, along with Parker. She also has attended the Nike All-American Camp, was invited to the USA Youth Development Festival, and last week, was named to third team of the Parade All America Team.
